Telehealth Treatment with Proactive

One way that we’re innovating where face to face treatment is not appropriate is through using telehealth to make sure we can keep your treatment, rehab or well being programme on track. This fact sheet tells you a bit more about telehealth and what to expect from your experience.
What is telehealth?
Telehealth is a way of keeping your treatment, rehab or well being programme going without face to face contact with your clinician. Telehealth is a safe, effective and secure method of treatment and it’s use by Proactive has been approved by ACC, and the Ministry of Health. It is also currently being used worldwide to great effect.
Telehealth is the use of communication technologies, such as computers and mobile devices, that enables you to access our health care team remotely to keep your treatment on track. While our team won’t be able to physically interact with you, they will be able to check on your progress, provide you with advice, watch and monitor your exercise programme and interact with you just as you would through an app like Facetime or WhatsApp.
What can you expect from your telehealth experience?
Your clinician will contact you either by phone or email to discuss with you whether you’re a good candidate for telehealth treatment. This will be based on a number of factors including where you are in your treatment pathway as well as your immediate needs.
From that point, you’ll agree on an appointment time that should be treated exactly the same as a face to face appointment. Your clinician will provide you with an email containing a link that you can click on to access Zoom (no need to download or do anything else), just have a computer, tablet or phone with access to the internet handy. Should you not be able to attend the appointment you need to give us at least 24 hours notice wherever possible.
Prepare for your telehealth appointment as you would for your face to face appointment. If you know it’s going to be an exercise based session make sure you have a space set up where you can move around and that you’re dressed appropriately. If it’s going to be a talking based appointment like a progress check in, make sure you have a quiet room where you’ll be free of distractions.
Ideally the appointment would be conducted on a computer with a camera in a well lit area. If you do not have access to that a tablet, or phone works too. These calls can be done by phone too so your clinician will discuss with you the best option for your needs.
During the call your clinician will confirm it’s you for your privacy requirements, then go through a series of questions about how you’re getting on. Each treatment is different but the most important thing is that you’ll have the opportunity to engage and ask any questions as you would in a face to face appointment.
