Dr Mike England is our medical Director and Lead Occupational Physician. He also holds the position of Medical Advisor to New Zealand Rugby. He is a fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and also a Fellow of the UK Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine. He has over 25 years’ experience in occupational medicine and moved to New Zealand from UK 3 years ago. Mike has Occupational Medicine experience across a wide range of industries and he has worked with a range of employers, employees, insurance companies and legal firms, and now within the ACC system. He covers the full range of occupational medicine services, but has a special interest in work based injury rehabilitation having worked in a regional rehabilitation centre in UK, and in vocational rehabilitation of individuals with serious spinal cord and brain injuries.
Having had a 20 year career in the British Army, as a graduate of the UK Joint Services Staff College, a Member of the UK Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management, and having held medical director roles in UK, Mike has a wealth of leadership and management experience. With this background, not surprisingly, he has an interest and expertise on the impact of organisational culture, leadership, and management on health and wellbeing. As a medical educator, Mike has held a University Director of Studies post delivering postgraduate medical education, and been an approved Deanery specialty training supervisor. He also has extensive experience presenting at national and international conferences, which is complemented by his track record in research and scientific publications.
